: Steering Hose Leaking?

I have a short water pump 427 in my '68 and have the remote resevior power steering. I used a piece of heater hose to connect the resevoir to the pump when I installed it a few months back, and now it looks like the fluid is "weeping" thru the hose. Apparently, heater hose is not a good choice for this purpose, but what is? Thanks.

You can get a power steering return hose from a local store like Pep Boys or kragen. They will work better.

"heater hose" isn't usually rated to carry petroleum or solvent based fluids. These fluids will deteriorate the rubber and will make the hose get spongy or weep.

Get a length of hose that's "oil or fuel" rated, and your problem will go away ;)

You can go to your local GM dealer and get a hose for a "G" van or Astro that is made for a remote resevoir.
