Think I read a post about this recently, but haven't been able to find it: I want to replace my P/S pump, and I have been trying to figure out how to remove the pulley. In the other post, they were talking about holding the shaft with an allen wrench stuck in the end of the shaft, removing the nut, then pull it of with a puller. Easy enough, but the problem is that my pump doesn't have a nut. Instead, the pulley has a neck protruding from the front, and it looks like this neck has been crimped to the shaft. It also seems like it doesn't have the internal hex in the shaft (there's a lot of crud in the hole, so I don't know for sure). I don't want to play the "find the correct pulley" game again, so I really want to reuse it. Does anyone know how to take it of and put it back on?

Olle,
later model P/S pumps have pressed on pulley. You will need a puller to remove that pulley .The rebuilt pump should come with a bolt, nut and washer to reinstall the pulley. parts store may have a lender puller to help with the job.

As always, doesn't take long to get a reply. Thanks! graemlins/thumbsup.gif Got a good puller, so that shouldn't be a problem. Can always persuade it with a hammer, as I won't reuse the pump anyway. So the very same pulley can be reused with a nut?

if your working with the pressed on pully P/S pump .. get the Right puller its a special horse shoe type one that holds the flange right at the hub a regular puller even a three finger one doesn't have the contact area & may distort the pulley when removing it .... some of these pressed on pulley don't want to come off  reinstall is easy center of hub is threaded for a bolt .. use nut & washer on bolt to press on pulley

Thanks for the info! I was actually ready to try it with a regular puller this weekend, so I really appreciate that you told me! Would obviously have been another opportunity to break parts when doing it the wrong way tongue.gif I'll see if they have a loaner at Auto Zone. Thanks again!
