The rear disc brake kit I bought allows me to to mount the caliper in front of the center line of the axle or behind the center line of the axle. What difference does it make? I've seen OEM rear disc brakes mounted both in front and behind on different cars. Other than brake line mounting concerns, if there are any, what advantages or disadvantages are then to mounting the calipers in one location or the other?

I will have to scrutinize the location of the bleeder screws to make sure I do indeed have the option to mounting them either way but my question about one placement being better than another or not still stands.

TIA

You know, I just asked a proffesional friend of mine the same question.....I was told that the placement had more to do with shock/suspension clearance than anything else. Make sure your bleeder screws are up top (like you mentioned) and either will do. I bought an LS1 rear disc setup for my 70 and ended up mounting them forward of the rotor because that is actually the stock configuration...good luck! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Where and how did you mount the little brackets that hold the non-caliper end of the flex hoses? I've already painted my housing and I'd prefer to find a bolt on location if I can but I'll weld them on if that's the only real choice.

It turns out the calipers are designed in such a way that they must be mounted behind the axle. The flex hose will need to run rearward around the body of the shock in my application. Lucky for me the mounting bracket can be bolted to an existing bracket on the rear axle so no welding is required.
