: Brake pad wear?

This is on my 93 Chevy truck that just passed inspection 3 months ago. Heard grinding when on the brakes coming home from work tonight. Took the front passenger side wheel off and my inner brake pad  Yet the outer one has at least 1/4" of pad left. Didn't check the driver's side yet but what would cause this uneven wear? Sorry it's not Chevelle related although it does share the garage with the Chevelle. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Thanks

Pretty normal, most newer cars/trucks wear one or two pads more rapidly than the others. Make sure when you replace them that you clean real good all the slides and pad contact points.

Caliper could be sticking , hung up or not fully releasing.....

Definately check the sliders. Clean thoroughly, and regrease using high temp disc brake grease. Don't use anti-sieze though.....

Did Yall know hat some AC delco pads are made by Ray bestos?? Also the finish on yor rotors is a majior factor on pad life.. GM has a serious concern with their braking on all of their newer prouducts.. It also depends on how You drive. 12K miles is not unusual for agressive driving,And you know who you are.. Be care full and get the best you can .. Just because one bit on the Lathe cuts good dosent mean the other is doing the same job..Pulling a rig down a 6% grade = Well yall know whwe Im coming from..

Not to sound dumb but what are the sliders and how would I check to see if the caliper is sticking or "hung up"? OK, I'm dumb but any help appreciated!

I think when they say sliders, there referring to the lip or ledge surface the cliper slides across on the backing plate, plus the long bolts that the caliper slides on. ??

Whe you change the pads and compress the caliper it should go back in smooth.

To make sure the calipers arent binding, After the pads are on and installed you should be able to push and pull on the caliper and it should slide freely on the Lubed up pins and bushings. Some pad kits come with the caliper hardware some dont. The Orings and seals dryup and cause the caliper not to sit flush with the rotor = uneven pad wear ect.. These are not the fluid seals for the piston.. Stand Under??
