Im looking to install a new center console in my chevelle, and im having some trouble getting it to sit right. the car was a original 4 speed w/o the console just the shifter out of the floor so i cant fall back on the original to figure it out. I've been looking all over the internet and cant seem to find any instructions on how to install. I'll be picking up a factory assembly book saturday hoping that will help, but if anyone has any tips im all ears:yes:

The reason the console isn't sitting right is the factory hump that is welded to the floor, is a non-console hump. It's a different shape. You have to remove the front seats/carpet, drill out the spot welds, and weld in the console hump, which you can buy from many Chevelle parts vendors.
Although the assembly is a good book to have, it's not going to help with your problem. The shifter humps are welded in at the fisher plant. There's really no shifter hump info, in the assembly manual, . Your in the right place here on TC for the info you need. There's a number of guys here, who can guide you thru this project.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I've got a question about putting the four speed in my '71. It was originally a column shift automatic, so there is no shifter hump on the floor. I've got it sitting in place right now. It sits down without any trouble. What I am wondering about is when I cut the floor out for the shifter to come up through the floor. How odd will it look without the shifter hump welded to the floor? Can I just get a different kind of shifter boot for the time being?
It will eventually get the proper hump on the floor. But I am kind of hoping to wait so I can do the bucket seat brackets, carpet, sound deadener, and the trans hump at one time. Instead of having the interior out three or four different times.
