: Tubular Braces- go where?
Herb Aug 19th, 04, 3:44 PM Where do these go? Are they the same as the additional frame braces on a 67 SS frame vs a Malibu frame?
Edelbrock Tubular Braces
Tubular braces work with GM A-Body and G-Body trailing arms to accurately locate the rear suspension for major improvements in cornering, steering response and traction with less wheel-hop and more power to the ground. All parts sold in pairs.
TronDD Aug 19th, 04, 5:31 PM They go from where the upper control arms mount to the frame, to where the lowers mount to the frame. They go right on the same bolts.
Tim.
gUmBaLL68Malibu Aug 19th, 04, 6:21 PM One nice thing about these is they are NEXT to invisible unless you get under the car to see.Good luck. If you have already installed aftermarket lower trailing arms you shouldn' tneed to pound out that bolt since it will probably be long enough. If its stock arms you will probably have to pound out that bolt.
sobever066 Aug 19th, 04, 10:08 PM Does anybody have any pics of the frame braces installed on their car? I have some hotchkis ones I want to install. Thanks.

Herb Aug 20th, 04, 9:29 AM Ok, THANKS!!! So they are actually aftermarket substitues for the SS frame braces used in 67 frames and other years. They actually look like they might even be a little sturdier than the "formed" metal ones. That's great info. and thanks for the pics!!
Elusive_R Aug 20th, 04, 10:31 AM Wow, I came in here to give you the link to my page and there it is! Haha graemlins/thumbsup.gif
If you go with Hotchkis like I did, ask them if they have any powdercoat blems that they're willing to sell. I got mine on Ebay for $90, if I remember correctly and I honestly couldn't tell you what's 'blem' about them.

Tim_D Aug 24th, 04, 12:38 PM How do these things affect exhaust clearance? I just unvested in a Flowmaster system that I'd hate to have to ding up too much...

Here are Hotchkis frame braces (http://www.72chevelless.com/Chassis16.jpg)on my '72 SS, with a Flowmaster 2.5" kit, and 40-series mufflers. The only tight area is at the head of the bolt...it comes really close to touching the case of the muffler. No issues so far, 2 years of having the car on the road after restoration.

I bought a pair of Edelbrock braces and can't put them in because the mufflers interfear. My exhaust system is custom made, though, so my situation is unique. When I get around to it, it'll be the 3rd time I've had the exaust adjusted to fit new parts. smile.gif
I've been afraid of getting a Flowmaster system because I don't know where it puts the mufflers.

ehjorten Aug 24th, 04, 3:42 PM Interesting picture...I notice that your bolts for the tubular braces/control-arm mounting are not even engaging the nylon insert of the nut.
