: How do I remove a arm cross shaft?

I have the a arms out of the car, I removed the end caps, but how do I get the cross shaft out of the a arm?

The bushings must be removed to allow the shaft to be removed. Expect to get new bushings for re-assembly. Also, inspect the shaft for wear; the bushings sometimes get loose and rotate on the shaft, causing wear.

The way to remove the bushings, is to drill out the rubber (1/4" bit) in each bushings, and the cross shaft will have enough room to come out. Then you collapse the bushing shells with a chisel and persuade them out.

With the rubber drilled out, I use a 1/4" chisle, and a SFH and start collapsing the shell longways. It will start to walk before long and then just a couple taps will drop it out.
