The advice given by Bill Rose (post #5) was the best you can get. Align the tops of the moldings with the edge of the panel and you will be in good shape. I just did the rear window in my 67 this way and it worked good.

If you're using original chrome, look at where the clip grabs the moulding. If the the lip is bent out of shape, move the stud so the clip can grab a fresh piece of moulding. I've seen where the clip can't hold cause the mldg lip got mangled from removal.

Also remember that that channel gets flooded with water and you've got screw threads going into a hole in steel. It's not going to be water tight and will become a future rust spot/problem. Do something to seal those threads. I welded mine from the back side but if you can't get to it you'll have to put some type of sealer on the threads before installing them. I use buytl tape (windshield rope) stretched to almost a thread and wrap the threads with it. I suppose you could use silicone or maybe even JB weld. Make sure the post part is clear so the clip will still fit.

A local bodyshop has a stud gun that welds the studs on just like the factory. I had the quarters and back glass filler panel done for the vinyl top trim on our '72 Lemans Sport. Worked great and no where for the water to get in. I do have some screw in studs and they have a rubberized sealer on the threads that supposedly seals the threads.
