My '68 SS originally came with the 4-piston front disc brakes. Somewhere along the line someone converted to single piston floating capilers. My question is this: how desirable are the original discs? If I ever decide to sell the '68 is this something that a collector is bound to frown upon, or is it common to convert them to the newer brakes?

I was under the impression that 67 was the only year for the 4 piston calipers, and that they changed to what you have in 68. If not, I'm sure someone will chime in. I'm looking at your name-
68elkySS454. Does your ride have a 454? That ain't original either. I wouldn't worry about it. My understanding is that the 4 piston brakes were a PITA. If the guy buying your car wants them - let him hunt them up and install them.
just MHO.

From what i've been told its 67's and 68's.When i get brake parts for my 68 i have to tell them its 69-72 single piston calipers.

I will agree that it is both 67 and 68 with the 4-piston calipers.

As for hurting originality, I think that would only be the case if the car were completely stock when selling... The 67-68 calipers were more prone to leakage, and it has been more difficult to find parts (like rotors) until recently...

As for desirability, I think it will only be those few that want it completely original, and know that the 67-68s had the different style setup... So not too desirable I would think
So if you have changed anything for better performance/drivaility, then I wouldn't worry about the brakes being changed also.

If someone was less interested because the brakes had been changed, then they would likely pick apart any other changes...

I have heard the 4 piston calipers are not nearly as good as the later years. I have been told that they are worth a bunch to people who go for originality. But if you drive this thing i would ditch the 4 piston and sell them.
