We finally found the source of the bad gas smell that has lingered for the past 3 months!!!! It was the gromet around the sending unit on top of the tank. No drips, just lots of wet gas on top the tank. Don't we love aftermarket parts?:hurray:

plastic - aluminum - steel???

replacement original equipment. same with the sending unit, all re-pop but correct for the car. had more than our share of problems with the restoration parts not fitting or not working, would take pages to share our bad experiences. but the bottom line is that where the smell was, not a drop on the floor, just a very very wet tank top. just another pia to fix. the seal around the ring was crap. hope this helps someone because we put up with the smell for 3 or 4 months, checking all the usual things.
