I just picked up a 70 Chevelle. I am wanting to put disk brakes on the front and a 12 bolt under it. A guy I worked with told me he had a 72 grand prix that I could get parts off of. He said it had a 12 bolt posi in it. Is it the same as a chevelle? Are the spindles and brakes stuff on the front end the same as a 70 chevelle? Thanks in advance.
Matt
Grab everything for the disc swap, don't forget the distribution block and the hose brackets mounted on the frame.
The rear may be a BuickOldsPontiac 12 bolt, which may have 12 bolts on the cover, but only 10 bolts on the ring gear (hence the difference between the Chevy 12 bolt).
The rear internals do not interchange with Chevy, and BOP gears are limited to a few sizes. Still a good rear, just pop the diff cover before paying Chevy 12 bolt prices.

Ok. So the disc brake setup will work. Good deal. Will the rearend bolt into the chevelle ok? Is there anyway to ID it to see if it is a olds rear or true 12bolt without removing the cover?
Thanks Matt
The rear end should bolt up, assuming it is not 67 or earlier (they are a little narrower).
I think BOP rears had bolt in axles, no C-Clip like Chevy. Have to pull the rear drums to look.
But no better way than to remove the rear diff cover asnd check. It's pretty easy.

Thanks for info. Are the BOP rears any good? I will keep you up to date and let you know what we find. The Grand Prix is a 72.

A lot of the Grand Prixs came with 14x7 steel wheels too. They are getting hard to find.

Update: I did find out the car came with a 455 in it. It has been sitting there in the field for years. Front tires are off the car but it is on blocks. Rear tires are still on the back. I hope the trailing arms are still good on it. Will let you all know when we get it out.
Thanks for info,
Matt
