I've been reading a lot of post on fan shrouds and whether to go electric or mechanical. I too was unsure and I finally decided to stay with the mechanical set up. I have a numbers matching 283 that never had a shroud on it, and here in Florida I really need to keep the engine cooler. I went with a 2 piece shroud from a first generation S-10 pick up or Blazer and cut it down just a little and it fits the stock radiator perfectly. I had to remove the spacers to put the shroud on and it worked like a charm. I like this 2 piece set up, which makes working on anything easier when you don't have to remove the entire shroud. I just thought I would share this with those thinking of using a shroud and staying with a mecanical set up.
