Your title says it all! Must be nice to be able to throw $90 for to pressure clamps! The economy hasn't effected their pockets.

Who can tell the difference between these and the repro clamps that look exactly the same to me?

When I buy the metal fuel filters at Advance auto, You get 4 pressure clamps and two pieces of hose. Then you go to the hobby shop and get a can of testors " Olive Drabe " and some flat clear coat.
Can you GUESS the " REST of the STORY "

Tangs are not the same, square vs round and slightly smaller. I have sold small parts such as this for high prices. Guys building a correct and documented car want them. It's more common than you think. If I ever dig out my brake line clips I'll see what those bring. If it's origional and quite visible it commands money.

I'd rather literally burn my money then spend $90 on hose clamps......

Unless I was stranded on the side of the road at night in a rural town with no parts stores for a 100 miles, and the person bringing me the clamps is a super model. :D

All that extra cash for sharp edges, I like original but that's crazy. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NOS-69-72-CHEVELLE-CAMARO-3-8-Fuel-Line-CLAMPS-U_W0QQitemZ390163282341QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_C ar_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item5ad78b39a5

On the money, so to speak! This method will outlast the appearance on any clamp or brake clip.

I guess if you had a Corvette or Camaro that scored 998 points, and you only lost the 2 points because you had the wrong clamps, then you might be willing to pay almost anything to get the correct clamps. But unless the entire rest of the car is "perfect", it does seem hard to justify! (I say Corvette or Camaro and not Chevelle, because I'm not aware of any Chevelle judging program exsiting any more that would even look that closely at those clamps.)

The irony is that, since there are very few "perfect" cars out there, these clamps will probably end up installed on a car that has some far more noticeable errors than the shape of the clamp tangs!!

Cheap ass me would grind the ends square of the green repro clamps and touch rhe edge with olive drab paint, if I had a 998 point car. Since I don't the repros do just fine as is.:)

Oh, and she would have to be wearing nothing but a thong and bring me a cold beer. Well, the beer may be asking for a bit too much.

I don't use pressure clamps simply because they're cheap and not as good as a band clamp with a worm screw tightener.

But, as I was reading this thread I started wondering...

In this day and age, when build sheets can be faked and aged so precisely, how can someone be 100% sure that any "NOS" part he's paying big bucks for is not simply a counterfeit in a faked and aged cardboard container?

Not saying that they are, but with so many things faked nowadays, I'm just conjecturing with my Saturday night can of Guinness.

A local flea market in my area was busted a couple of weeks ago for selling counterfeit items (front page news in the local scandal sheet).
A lot of stuff was confiscated and they're stilling trying to sort out what's real and what's not.

So, why not counterfeit "NOS" parts also?

Regards,
-Greg

"NOS" does not mean identical to original. It may but most of the time it means replacement part. If you want a 1000 pt. car you spend.
