I just got my car back from the exhaust shop, got hit in the rear and it broke one of my hangers for my exhaust and had it fixed. Probably one of the worst JOBS EVER that has been done on my car, this guy did not know how to weld. I saw that hideous thing and said this is pretty bad, and they said its free. So i said ok without looking any further.

Got it home last night and looked under it again and see that they cut a big hunk of my rear upper control arm out so the exhaust pipe didn't rub on it anymore  I have had another set in my room with poly bushings all ready to go but haven"t put them in (THANK GOD) or those would have been ruined too

ANYWAY my question is can i replace just my upper control arms without taking off my lower control arms?? i have new shocks & springs so i will be doing these @ the same time also

what would be the best way to do this?

Also does anyone know the bolt sizes of what holds these upper control arms in?? Thanks

Yes , it can be done. I just did it last week. Support the axle on a floor jack and remove the shocks. Then you can wiggle the axle enough to line up the holes. The bolt is 1/2-13, but I cannot remember the length.

How are you going to do it with the exhaust in the way? You said they cut the arm to clear exhaust, right?

When your done, snap the arm in half, take it back to that shop and tell them you had a wreck because the arm snapped while you were driving and you lost control and you are now going to sue them. When they turn white and get nervous laugh at em, tell em your kidding but that they are hacks and should pick up a trade school course or two.

That sucks.

Well i got my exhaust fixed, had to get new pipe from the muffler to the tailpipe. Ran about 75 bucks but now its out of the way. Ended up working on a pal's wiring harness in his camaro this weekend so i will be tacking the rear suspension next weekend.

That sounds like a good idea though about bringing it back to the shop, if i do it i will let you know what happens.

that is just plain stupid to cut part of the suspension to make room for an exhaust. I had the exhaust put on the coupe not long ago and they welded the hanger brackets to the rear bumper brackets. graemlins/sad.gif ofcourse I had to pull the rear bumper off to finish the paint work. took half a day to cut the weld and grind the bracket smooth again. I then put the brackets on the frame where they should be. dont know who you used but it sounds like the place I went to (no name) but I decided "I'm not going to pay alot for this crappy job" nomatter what George says.

Oh i will never go back to that place again, i have had some other exhaust work done since then @ a meinike here in town that has treated me very well and that is where i went to have the exhuast fixed. They did an excellent job, and now after looking @ the other side i will need to get that side down to, the way they designed hte hangers the exhaust moves much much more then the other side.

After he did this side the vibrations in my car almost went completly away and hoping when i do the other side it will be the same.

I am just glad i have some extra upper control arms because if i didn't i would be a really peved.
