Are there any coil springs for a '71 Chevelle that can be used with both big block or small block and keep the same height in the front?

Well the main problem is what do you mean by same height as stock from GM or were you own personal chevelle is sitting height right now. Because coil springs have different spring rates. But there is a significant weight between a SBC & BBC and you will need BBC springs for you engine if that is what you have. But what i will do is measure you current height of you car and buy a set of Morroso springs and put them own if it sit higher than what you want you can cut the down the springs a couple of inchs until you get the desired height you want.

Well I have an sbc for now but want to upgrade to bbc later (if i can) and wanted to work on the suspension now. I was hoping there was a front coil when used with both sbc and bbc in the same car would not change how high or low the car sits.

Well this is what happen to me i had a set of almost new SBC springs on my 71 chevelle with a 350 & i went up to a 402 BBC and man when i set it down in the car the front lowered some atleast 2 1/2 inchs but it looked ok. But when i drove it for the first time this thing went up the street but when trying to turn corners the inner fenders was scrubbing the tires. Which you might be able to get away with it but it all depends on tire size but i recommend just using BBC springs for BBC and SBC springs SBC because it BBC springs and a SBC you car front end will sit higher in the front kind of like when you take the engine out of a car the front it jacks up. But like i said in my last post Coil Springs are made with different Coil Rates and Weight Rates.

Junkyard. this does not really give you the answer you want but...here goes anyway. i had a 383 with aluminum heads. drop spindles and decided to put eibach springs on front. well too low so i went and go the small block moog springs for a 67. i got every spring option they had to make it the heaviest duty. which basically is ac and something else i believe. then cut 1/2 coil off. i really liked the stance but i wanted a bigger motor. so i put a aluminum headed big block in. well the car sits great now. i did have to replace the hex head bolts in the inner fenders with button heads and beat just a tad on the inner fender. no more rubbing. and if i would have not cut the 1/2 coil off it would have caused me no problems. so my answer is yes and no. i have read that these srpings will wear quicker but i only put 2 to 3k on the car a year. so if i get 4 to 5 years than they were worth it. the car has not sagged since the big block, but it did drop the ride down about 3/4". check out the pics to see cars ride. also remember that i have 2" drop spindles on the car. just my .02. tommy

if you look at pics you will see two files with the black lemans. the top on is bbc. the next one down is the small block. pretty good comparison if you need one. tommy

Yeah I'm looking at it from a worst case scenario

BB or SB I think the car still sits at the same "height"

With that being said The BB springs are beefier and will ride harder with a SB installed and may sit shightly high until the BB goes in.

Now if were the other way around and the car had SB springs with a BB insatlled it would sag and ride like your on a sponge.

Sure get the BB springs and change all your bushings and ball joints , etc... But don't expect a smooth ride until the BB goes in, and DON'T get alined either.

I know alined is spelled wrong but I just finished my 3rd rum and coke and am having a brain fart graemlins/beers.gif graemlins/hurray.gif graemlins/thumbsup.gif graemlins/waving.gif
