I have been struggling with my tail panel replacement for a little while now, but I have it all in it's final position (I think) and just wanted to mount the bumper just to make sure it all lines up before I weld.

The problem I have is I took the bumper off such a long time ago that I don't remember if there are supposed to be bolts in the mounting holes. I know there are not supposed to be any at the very back of the trunk floor, but how about the ones in front of the very back ones? Currently there are 2 bolts in the back mounting holes (forward ones) on the left side of the car and 1 rusted one on the right. But it looks like the bolts are mounted inside the trunk within the sheet metal? Is it supposed to be this way? I looked in the service manual and it shows removable bolts in all locations....I'm confused.

I know what I'm asking is probably a bit confusing so hopefully this quick freehand pic will clear it up a little (sorry for the crappy cell pic)

Just mounted my rear bumper on our 69. Where the bumper bracket attaches to the body it used 10 bolts, 10 bumper washers, and two square nuts total. 4 bolts on each side with the nuts fixed in the body and 1 shim each on the 4 bottom (2 on each side) (closes to the ground). These 4 bottom ones went - bolt, washer, bracket, shim, body. The two in the center used large square nuts like the ones used on the body mount bolt at the firewall behind your wheel well.

So the nuts are fixed in the body and not the bolts (the ones closest to the ground)? On mine, I have the bolts fixed to the body but they don't look long enough to be able to grab a nut.....I'm really confused. I'll probably have to drill them out or cut up the trunk floor to get to them:mad:

I think you should take some PICS and post them so others with more experience than me can take a look. Sounds like to me someone has used the wrong stuff in the past to mount yours. If I get a chance late tonight I will try to remember to take some PICS of mine.

Thanks - I'll take some pictures.
