: '69 325/350 hp Fuel Filter Position
What is the proper "clocking" position of this fuel fliter and the 1/4" return line outlet? Should the return outlet be toward the pass side or in front of the 3/8" line outlet to the carb. Or in between? Pics would be helpful.
Woj Feb 23rd, 10, 10:10 AM The assembly manual on page 333 shows the 1/4" return line at the 9 O'Clock position looking front to back. I was having difficulty lining mine up there due to the coolant bypass hose between the pump and intake manifold. The 1/4" return line was hitting the bypass hose. I placed the 1/4 return line at the 6 o'clock position, which also made the filter label face forward.

von Feb 23rd, 10, 10:27 AM Thanks. I was having trouble with the 9 o'clock position too as you describe. I'll use the 6 o'clock position but the label will now face the driver side.

Here's a picture of mine....still the original filter that was put on at the factory! It's as 'correct' as they come.

I would bet Bill still has his milk money from first grade.:D:D
Thanks guys. Looks like the AIM is wrong and the factory positioned it where it would fit. I was looking at pics of restored car that had it in the AIM (9 o'clock) position but it appeared the return line "U" bend was bent tighter by the installer so it would clear the coolant hose.

I used to, but then I spent it all (...and more) in pursuit of a decent set of headrests for my Parchment interior :p
I do have 2 or 3 NOS fuel filters for it, but the thing is still running great with the original on there, so it remains ;)

Here's how mine turned out.

Thanks Bill. I believe the repro bracket is a little off in that it appears to locate the filter a little further away from the engine than originals. Barely clears the water pump. Had to remove the Stewart high-flow pump that was on there because it wouldn't clear and replace it with a stock rebuilt pump. I had a scary moment when I first installed the REPRO filter and fuel lines. I snugged up the line to filter connections good and started the car for maybe 5 seconds then shut it off. Had a puddle of gas 4 ft in dia under the car. Both filter fittings were gushing gas. Had to finally crank the flare nuts as tight as they would possibly go (thought I'd break or strip something) before the leaks stopped. It's OK now. Repro parts strike again.
Now you just need the right ps cap !;)

It IS the correct PS cap (steel one with 2 ears). I just need to strip the black paint off it.
