I have my 72 frame supported on jack stands. The rear end is jacked as high as I could get it, and supported, by the jack. I removed the right shock and removed the lower control arm. Once I did this the axle moved back a couple of inches. This is causing tension on the brake line. This does not seem normal. If I try to put the arm back in place it is out of alignment with the axle. How can I get things back in alignment? Thanks for any help.

Lower the axle to remove the force from the springs and remove the left shock. Then the axle will be easy to move around.

Thank you that did the trick. One more question will I be sorry if I remove both arms at once?
Seems I read someplace to do one at a time. I need to get inserts welded in and don't have a mig.

No,as long as you use a floor jack or some jack stands to support the rear axle while the arms are out you should not have any problems. You won't be able to move the chassis till you replace the arms.
