My driver's side spring is sagging and making the car tilt so new springs are coming up fast.

I need to know what brand of spring is actually going to give me a drop while still stiffening the ride a bit. I put Hotchkis 1 in drop on the back and it rose about 1/2 from the worn out springs

Springs that are on the car are worn outfactory BB springs to my knowledge...they came out of a 70 SS but the car had a 400 pontiac dropped in it, I know the springs were huge.

I am running a small block and do not want any rise, I want at least a 1/2in drop from where it sits now which appears to be about factory SB height since the BB springs are worn out

No ideas?

Redneck suspension guys around here can't do better than "if they're too tall you can heat em or cut off a coil" graemlins/clonk.gif

Good Luck with that one. If I was dropping any car first thing I would go for is the Spindles. Spindles don't care what engine you have in your car.

But you can also cut coils off if you want, it has it's effects on the susp. geometeory.

Found this on another post it may help you out. Figure out what the front of you car weighs and you should be able to find a spring that will work out ok.

Get a spring that is just short of what you want your final rate to be and shorten coils to set height. That is how race cars are done, that or weight jacks/screw jacks. Nothing wrong with cutting coils, read Herb adams book, he goes into great detail of how to do it.

I used the Hotchkiss front 1" lower coils for my big block '69. Waited a couple of months and a few hundred miles for the springs to settle and wound up cutting 1/2 coil off with a cut off wheel.

Check out Classic Performance (http://www.classicperform.com) . I have the 2" drops on the rear and the 1.5" drops on the front of my small block Elky.
