View Full Version : When do you set pinion angle when installing SSM bars?

The directions don't actually tell you when to set the pinion angle. I believe it's supposed to be done before you drill the hole But is it after you tighten the other bolts? I don't even see how this hole matters. With 2 other bolts already in the bracket and the bracket sitting against the housing how could the pinion angle possibly change the location of that hole?

I checked my pinion angle before i took them off, then i put them on and the pinion angle was about the same. Also i have been driving for al ittle over a year & never drilled that last hole (been abit lazy about it) but they work great even without the hole drilled.

I had no issues with my pinion angle.

Before i did the swap i did all kinds of readings and checked this and that, then when i actually did it i didn't have to adjust anything it just worked perfectly (maybe im just lucky)

Good luck.

Tim. Tim you can grind down the area of the bracket that touches the diff housing and that would change the hole location(the center hole that you drill)And the pinion angle. Not sure which way it will move the pinion angle it's a trail and error thing.I just bolted everything together and got adjustable uppers BMR.

I have the BMR adjustable uppers too. But I wanted to get in the ballpark with the SSMs. I didn't want it set at like 10 degrees up and have to try and point it 5 degrees down entirely with the BMRs.

I guess I could tighten everything up as is then loosen it, tweak, and drill the hole afterwords if I need to.

Ohh forgot to mention th eonly problem i ran into.

Other then the little plastic washers that were a MAJOR Pain to get in. The ebrake cable bracket on the drivers side had to be bent a little to have the SSM lift bar fit. Other then that it went in fairly smooth, about a 2 1/2 job. 1 1/2 hour for one side 30 min break 30 min to do the ohter side (always works that way smile.gif )

I got everything in no problem. Not too big a deal. I did have issues with the e-brake cables on both sides. I just forced the arms up and down a few times and let them work it out themselves. smile.gif

And they really do need something other than those stupid washers.

I just used some silicon grease to hold the washers in place, worked first time...
