Does anyone know if GM / Chevy used different metal alloys / thickness' of metal for different applications, for instance, was a driveshaft for a SB different from a BB ? And if so, were the metals / thickness' different from year to year? I am building a '70 SS 402.

Thanks,

Roland

As far as I know, the OE driveshaft for a small block car is no different than the driveshaft specs for a big block installed in the same model and year. But, GM and other manufacturers use many different suppliers for parts and there may be vast differences in the material and wall thickness for different cars and there may even be some differences between the driveshafts within the same model year. Best bet, if you are in doubt about the quality of your stock driveshaft, is to purchase one from any of the many aftermarket manufacturers.
