i have to get my 69 inspected and wanted to get some ideas of what thier going to look for at the free state run inspection station or am i better off going to a private station and paying for it.i'm thinking that the private will be a little less "picky"..thanks for any and all help
Bill Rose Feb 19th, 10, 6:18 PM Is this a daily driver? Historical cars don't have to be inspected. If you do have reg plates, taking it for inspection is no big deal. They will take the car thru and do everything. I guess they would inspect it like any other car, except they'd use 69 standards for emissions. They can't check some things on an old car, like they can on the newer ones, like the gas cap, computer codes, etc. If you get it done at a private station, they will get a fee, but you might feel better not letting a state worker take your car thru the process.
Steven's 72 Feb 19th, 10, 6:26 PM Hey Gene, I would get QQ Plates and call it a day. They have a 1-800 number and they will mail you the application. No inspection required.
Historic plates and a 1 time registration fee

bob55 Feb 19th, 10, 8:16 PM Check the N.J. M.V.C web site. They are now issuing QQ plates at some of the local agencies. I got mine at the Westfield office.
Herb396 Feb 19th, 10, 8:22 PM QQ Plates all the way.
Philip Feb 19th, 10, 8:28 PM Wow they still have the state safety inspection. In 1966 I used to take cars to the inspection station for people that did not want to waste their time sitting in line. They would pay $10 and I could make around $100 a week if I got enough referrals. That was a lot of money back then, gas was only 27 cents a gallon.
ironworker68 Feb 19th, 10, 10:45 PM if you are near trenton area, the qq plates are done at the trenton dmv office only. make sure you have all your documentation and payment readily available when you show up, the small office is usually packed.
wilmaya Feb 20th, 10, 5:09 AM Go with the QQ plates if not a daily driver. Pat FYI you don't have to go to Trenton for QQ plates anymore, there are some location's that do them. Wayne is close to me and that's where I would go. Oh, and they do want to see 3 or 4 pictures of it. (Front, side, and rear.
BlueSS454 Feb 20th, 10, 9:02 AM You can get QQ plates at one of the offices down here in South Jersey now too. I've never waited longer than 10 minutes to get tags going to the Trenton Office. And BTW...you have to go to 225 E. State St. if you choose to go to Trenton. The special plate division is in a separate office than the main one in Trenton.
ironworker68 Feb 20th, 10, 10:22 AM blue, thanks for clearing that up...! can't believe i forgot about the separate location on e state st. i remember how confused i was when i went to get my first set of qq's last year... went from bakers basin to trenton dmv to e. state street. hah.
