: Great junkyard trip!
John McGraw Feb 19th, 10, 10:33 AM A friend told me that he had seen a 67 chevelle Wagon in a junkyard not to far from me, so I took a trip over there yesterday. The car was in pretty bad shape, but I got lots of those little interior bits and pieces that you always need when you are building a car. Got a nice latch mechanism for the spare tire compartment, a rear seat latch, a load of interior trim parts and the trim from around the outside of the side rear windows. I also got the two little vertical trim pieces for the tailgate trim and the rear window safety switch. The car was on the bottom of a stack of cars, so I really didn't pay too much attention to the roof. I had noticed it had a roof rack, but the 66 chevelle on top of it had pretty much smashed it. I was about to leave, when I looked at the roof again, and saw that it had a primo air deflector on it! I cleaned it up when I got home, and it is really nice! The rubber gaskets for the mounting feet were still intact and in good shape. All the stuff I got off the car, including the air deflector only cost me $20!
Not a bad way to kill 2 hours.

Scott,
It had a power rear window. I did not go to the trouble of pulling it since mine is in excellent condition. You need one? I will probably will be going over there in the next month or so. The bezel on the outside of the tailgate was not perfect, but it was not too bad. I took the the window circuit safety switch off of it just because it was easy to get.

Mine is slow, but I have a spare i need to install and see if it's any better. I know someone else here was asking about a manual one recently too. It sure seems like these are in demand!
Thanks for asking!
chader Feb 20th, 10, 9:55 AM wow, great find. I suspect you don't have an extra left side, rear window chrome?
GSMCGSMC Feb 20th, 10, 10:35 AM Nice find John I'm jealous. I can't find anything old near me. The crushers work constantly.
bcmiller Feb 21st, 10, 1:16 PM John,
Just curious. What did the 66 Chevelle you mentioned look like? What condition?

There was not much left of it. doors were gone, all front sheetmetal was gone, as was the interior. This guy never crushes anything. He just keeps selling parts off of the cars until there is nothing left. He still has cars from the 40's in his yard.

bcmiller Feb 23rd, 10, 5:58 PM Well it is good to know that at least he doesn't crush anything. I wish more places kept at least partial shells around. Never know what you might need sometime.
KCjones Feb 23rd, 10, 9:52 PM I would just about kill to find a yard around here that has anything before 86 in it. I remember when I was a kid I used to go to the "pick-a-part" with my dad, could spend all day in one of those places. I heard about a place about an hour from my house that was supposed to be like that. A waste of gas and $2 is what it was, couldn't even find anything for my 91 caprice let alone parts for something built in 72.
