I have a set of Monroe's that I put on the car maybe 6 years ago. Only have 1500 miles on them but if i fully compress them, they do not decompress(extend) on their own. I'm assuming they are shot and I should invest in a new pair? Probably should check the rears as they were replaced the same time. What would cause them to go bad with so little miles on them?

Unless the shocks are of the "gas charged" variety, they won't extend back automatically. The "older" or standard replacement units are just a valved piston in a tube of oil - no gas pressure on top to push the piston down.

Unless they're leaking around the shaft seal they should be allright with only 1500 on 'em.
