: rear arm thread

I have been following the "official thread", last post 2/13 I think. My '66 has been my daily driver
since 1978, for 20 of those years I had Lakewood
ladder bars and adj. coil over gas shocks. It was
great for straight line, lifting the rear and putting the rubber down, but otherwise very stiff.
The major problem was that I torqued the right axle tube out of the third member on two different
rearends. I have since done away with them infavor
of better all around driveability. I've been shopping for a Hotchkis type set up. Now I am
reconsidering, I think that I will try the stock
boxed lower with rubber and 1" sway. I have acquired '65 factory adj. uppers (eccentric bolt
adj.) and will use rubber bush. I haven't heard
mention of these uppers, has anyone any experience
with these. I have only seen these adjustables on
'65, were they available on any other years.
This is my first post, I have been eavsdropping
for 2 1/2 years. I really like everything about
the "TEAM" and would like to get more involved in the future, with shorter posts of course.
Thanks Rowdy

I was not aware of adjustable upper from the factory. I purchased a full adjustable Hotchkis rear suspension package from a member on the board here, and am very happy with the quality and strength of the Hotckis kit. The complete package weighs 40lbs. They are very strong and work well. Hotckis arms have grease zerks and are much stronger than boxed factory arms. Just my .02.

Rowdy,

Welcome. I'm sure Dennis68 (Denny) would be glad to offer an opinion on your uppers. As you read in the string, rubber on stock uppers seems to be the best way to go for the uppers based on the "bind" tests that were run. As for lowers, some of us are waitng for UMI Performance (www.umiperformance.com) to release their spherical end lowers. Denny is also working to get us a "Team Chevelle" discount on them. I have heard that the lowers are the same for all the 60's series Chevelles but Denny or others would have to confirm that.

There are opinions on all the configurations of rear CA's but I for one are going with stock uppers, rubber bushings, and UMI lowers.

Again, welcome!

If you can find a set of OE adjustable uppers then by all means pick them up. A nice pair rebuilt with rubber bushings will provide the pinion adjustment that most want with the rubber compliance that is needed.

There was a post with pictures a little back with pictures of a frame off & it had adjustable upper factory bars. I cant find the picture now but would love to find what they were off of & how to get a pair. Are all the bars ( upper & lower ) the same length thru the years ?

I know that '64-'72 lowers are the same, '64-'67 uppers are different from '68-'72. I bought a pair of '65 adj. uppers with new rubber and all of the eccentric hardware on eBay a few weeks ago for $102.00. A week later I bid on another pair without hardware up to $120.00 but did not win. Other than seeing a '65 in a magazine with them, the two pairs on eBay mark the extent of my knowledge. On a similar post, Dennis acknowledged their existence as well as the scarcity. I will post a photo (mine are still on the garage floor) if anybody is interested (and I can figure out how to do it). If another set turns up, I'll be sure to alert with a "TEAM" post.
