: Removing spring spacers

One of the issues with my '70 SS that I don't like is that the rear seems to sit low in relation to the front. I noticed that the previous owner put 2 spacers in each of the front coil springs. I would like to remove these things. Basically they are just stuck in between coils in the middle of the spring. I tried just knocking them out but can't really get any leverage. How do I spread the springs to get these jury rigged things out. The car is already up on jack stands so the springs should be hanging. Any help? Thanks, Skip

Skip,
I once owned a 72 Skylark a previous owner, had installed twist in spacers.

For those, you just use a rachet, and twist them out.

I've also seen rubber spacers.

For those, I'd cut them out with a power saw or grinder. Just be careful not to cut your brake lines or anything

Hope this helps.

I just took them out of mine. Use a 1/2" breaker bar or ratchet and turn them out counter clockwise. They should just slip out.

Sometimes I feel like such a moron when I see how easy things are with the advise from the experienced folks on this forum. You guys rule. Why didn't I even notice that the spacers had the 1/2 rachet hole in them. They are now out....no problem. Thanks again!! Skip

You should be able to just remove the top nuts off the shocks to get the extra travel without endangering your brake lines by using a saw.
