I seem to remember reading somewhere that the aluminium drums from later model GM itermediates will fit and work on 64-72 Chevelles.
Can anyone tell me exactly what years and cars that I should look at to find a set??
Thanx!

Check Monte Carlo SS and Buick GN's from the 1982-1988 I think.

In 1978 GM downsized and lightened vehicles in the interest of better fuel mileage.Aluminum body parts, bumpers, wiring harnesses and brake drums were just some of the lightened parts.
Heres a partial list-
Chevy - Malibu -Monte Carlo -Monte SS-78 to 88
Olds - Cutlass supreme - Cutlass Salon -78 to 87
Buick - Regal - Gran National - Skylark -78 to 88
Pontiac - LeMans - Grand Prix -Bonneville-78 to 87
Also the wagon versions of these cars.
These drums came on alot of cars,it wasn't a performance thing. They warped easier than an iron drum and on high mileage cars corroded to the axle flange, forcing many techs to use the 36 oz ford tool. graemlins/clonk.gif If you can find a set thats usable they're great for reducing unsprung weight on a drag car.

One thing to look out for is that Chevy drums have a larger diameter hole in the center than do the others. It is .031 inch larger. So, you may have to open up that hole to fit the Chev axles. I have done it and had the drums turned to be sure that everything runs true.

Thanx to everyone who replied.
After finding out that new ones were no longer available (except for that NOS pair on Epay for a $200 opening bid), I decided to just go with a new pair of iron replacement units ($24.99 + tax each) and give my simple brake job budget a break job too.
