: Fast Ratio retrofit - what hoses to use?

I recently came across a fast ratio power steering gear box ('85 Monte SS) and decided to swap out my stock '71 Elky gear to give me tighter steering. Yeah, I know about the Jeep swap - but this deal was too good to pass up - FREE! I was able to cobble up the low pressure return line using a new O-ring fitting and a short "L" shaped nipple. The problem is with the high-pressure side. Is there an Over-the-counter hose available (Autozone) that has the O-ring fitting on the steering box side, and will mate to the '71 pump output and have the correct routing?

Lastly, I'm trying to maintain a "Correct" appearance on this car. It's an original 400 car - and I hate to swap out the big block rag joint for a "conversion" joint from an aftermarket source that's not "correct". Does the conversion joint from Lee have the correct cast joint for the Big Block cars? If not, is this available anywhere else?

Thanks,

I don't know if you will find one at autozone but i'm pretty sure Lee Manufacturing can help you out and shipping is fast. Good luck

AutoZone?????? You must be kidding? They get stuck IMMEDIATELY if the Year Make and Model are not listed in the catalog / computer. Lee Mfg. fastand correct parts. All you need is the little adapter and your stock high pres hose works. I suspect you get what you need from Lee for under $10.00.

I don’t think you will find an off the shelf hose with 1 O-ring end and 1 flare end.

You can swap the pump fitting to O-ring style and then run a 80’ camaro pressure hose.

The rag joint I used for the GC swap looks like the stocker. Difference is the connection which is not visible.

I did this years ago with a 72. Unscrew the HP line, remove the old box, install new adapter fitting into the G-body box. Reconnect old hose: Done.

You have to be careful threading in the hose after you install the "adapter". The G-body is not the standard US thread BUT IT WORKS. Just be careful threading it in.

93-98 jeep grand cherokee high pressure line with one 90* bend cut off, and a 3/8" tube nut and double flare added. looks almost factory.
also used the metal part of the return line and added my own rubber line for the return.

ill try to get some pics tonight

cost me about 25 bucks total

rag joint i got from a 73-87 chevy truck with the GC box.
