I'm going from a powerglide to a NON-CONSOLE 4 speed, so I need a steel hump or tunnel as they call them. OPG has a premium version for $79.99 and a version on sale for $49.99. The $49.99 version is squared on the drivers side, and the premium is a nice rounded square all the way around. The premium looks better quality....but which is the correct version? www.opgi.com (http://www.opgi.com)

Rubadub " Rob " is correct. On my one owner 70 SS 454-M-22 El Camino with a bench seat, It has the square type top. NOTE: This hole in the floor on my 70 must have been cut with a BLUE WRENCH. During the frame off, The floor pan had what looked like " metal drippings from a torch "
Thats my story and I am sticken to it.......

Rob, Bob, on my '70, I replaced the floor with a 1 piece pan and kept the original center hump / opening for the 4 speed. The new floor has a round 1 1/2" - 2" pre-punched in it for the stick. The original that I saved is as described above in other post, a square opening that sits atop the floor. The car is a bench seat, non console. When I weld the new piece on, how do I install it to make it look like it belongs there? Does the square opening center over the factory hole?
Thanks,
Roland

I find that very interesting! On the 72 4sp wagon that I special ordered, the hole in the tranny tunnel appeared as though it had been cut out with a torch, then the shifter hump was spot welded in place and the joint covered (heavily brushed by hand) with some kind of sealant.

The original 4 speed car floors were cut with either a torch or plasma cutter leaving a rough edge around the cutout. The tunnel cover was secured down without finishing the floor.

I thought I had some good underside shots, but guess I don't. My floor pan also appearsto have been torched, the the hump added, spot welded, and seam sealed. Looks like a factory job to me.

Very interesting indeed, I have to go and look at the cut section on the existing. I cut the center out and kept it all for a reference.
Rob, when the new metal was trimmed back, you did a nice job tieing it all back in. I think to leave it as described from the factorty would catch water and create a potential rusting condition.

Thanks,
Roland
