I AM LOOKING TO FIND A LITTLE HISTORY ON MY 1967 CHEVELLE.
IS THERE ANY WAY OF TRACING BACK THE VIN # TO WHERE THE CAR MAY HAVE BEEN ORIGINALLY SOLD AND WHEN?:beers:

I have been told the State Highway Patrol has access to that info. It takes a while to get results and they won't do it for just anybody. Ya kinda need a buddy in the department. I see VIN searches for sale on the net also. It would be a great way to verify a car's pedigree.

Good luck, its going to be hard to find info on that old a car. There is no magical date base anywhere that holds that information.
If you know someone in law enforcement they can call NICB with the vin and NICB might be able tell you what date the car was shipped and to what dealer. That's all they can tell though. They can't tell you it's a SS396 or a z-28, all they can tell you is what year car was shipped on a particular date to a particular dealer. Also, keep in mind this is "need to know" data and there is the possibility of repercussions for anyone (your buddy could put his job in jeopardy) accessing this information for personal use as its not maintained in the public domain.

I asked a local state patrol about this yesterday for my 67.
I've known him and his parents for years. Fished in the same club with his Dad.
Said he'd love to but............it was against the rules and he would loose his job for doing it. He hated it but just couldn't do it. He even agreed that it would be a cool thing to have a trace but......nope.
