i have a 65 chevelle small block with manual brakes, i just pulled a power brake booster and dual reservoir mc off a early 60's chevy wagon small block. i measured the booster and i am pretty sure its a 9inch. Will the new booster just mount directly on my chevelles firewall or will i have to drill new holes in the firewall? also do i need to relocate(drill) the orginal pin hole on my brake pedal? also does the hole in the firewall where the booster mounts & the booster rod goes through and connects to the brake pedal need to be reamed out? thanks in advance

Ryan,

All good questions but without knowing what car you took the setup from it would be hard to say. You are just going to have to remove your old parts and see what fits. Unless someone here has done the same conversion.

It is very possible that it will bolt right up.

Hi Ryan,

I did the very same conversion on my '65.

The booster fit fine, I didn't have to drill any holes anywhere. The brake clevis & pin took some trial-and-error adjusting, but I didn't have to drill a new hole in the brake rod. The second hole in it worked fine.
Pedal height is good. Overall the conversion went rather smoothly. (See picture)

I kept my drum brakes because they had new steel lines, shoes, springs and cylinders. The braking improved about 50% just by adding the booster. I don't have a heavy engine or lots of extra weight in the car with options.
But it still 'grabs' and you have to be careful not to lock them up. So if you are keeping your drums, better not watch the nice bum on the chick jogging down the street - you still have to pay attention & keep a good distance when driving and apply the brakes with steady pressure.
If you have to drive in city traffic regularly with morons running red lights, or pedestrians cutting in front of you, (or watch the cute LA chick joggers with full attention) then I would recommend taking it a step further and convert to discs/pad and a disc proportioning valve.

My car is 2 miles away stored in a garage for the winter so I can't answer any specific dimensional questions.

Good luck, hope this was helpful.
Tom

install went fine, did get hung up a bit with mounting the adjuster pin on the pedal...the kit i took off the wagon did already have a proportioning valve hooked up to it, so that should help with even fluid distribution. Since the booster bracket to the firewall was off a wagon, i did have to drill 2 holes in the bracket, but nothing major. i'm looking forward to taking her out once i get all the lines hooked up. thanks again, its good to have a heads up before starting these projects whether big or small.
