: Nearly out of shims. Frame measurement?

Well, last time I aligned my car I was nearly out of shims. As such, I was wondering, for those of you who can, what is the measurement between the inside faces of your frame "ears" that the upper control arms bolt to? My car is at 31 5/8". I measured a friend's 70, and his was at about 31 1/2".

Since the motor is out and it would be easiest to do now, I'm thinking of having my frame rolled out another 1" wider to give me some shims back, but I thought I should find what the measurement is first, both factory spec and what "real world" 30+ year old frames are now.

Thanks,
Troy

I think 32" is the factory spec.

There is an offset upper control arm shaft that gives you about 3/8" back.

I'm already using offset upper shafts, so that was my first indication of a problem.

I think I'll have the frame rolled back out to 32.25" or so to give me some "extra" room for shims.

How exactly is the "rolling" done? My guess is that they lash the frame down (using the holes around the spring pockets) and then push up on the crossmember. Can anyone clarify?

I'm going to start calling a few frame shops today.

Thanks,
Troy
