: why do brake lines have coils near master?

I'm getting ready to install my line-loc and need to bend some lines. I always see lines coiled near the master.

Anyone know what this is for???

Thanks!

just a guess.. heat dissipation?

I always thought it was so the lines have the ability to move without getting kinked or fatigued when someone replaces a master cylinder or brake booster. Also it has to allow for flexing between the body and the frame.

Acts as a "shock absorber". Remember, the master cylinder is mounted to the body and the junction block is mounted to the chassis. There is some "twisting" motion between the two. The coil absorbs this motion preventing the eventual stress cracking of the lines at the master cylinder.

Or maybe they thought "hey this car isn't going to have enough power to cause line movement fatigue" smile.gif
j/k but they are needed to keep the lines from breaking because of the movement fatigue.
