Thinking bout purchasing a 1970 chevelle 12 bolt posi w/3:31 gears w/axle prefix code ccf for a thousand bucks, the guy swears its almost perfect and it dosent need a rebuild and that it came out of an Ls6, he unbolted the housing and it looked ok to me, so my question is since i know little about identifying flaws , how will i know if its worth it? Thanks.

It's hard to know what condition a rear end is in without taking it apart. It's a gamble that you have to take, I guess. See if he wil let you pull the axles out and check them for wear. If the axles are good then the rest of it probably is too. If the axles have wear on them or rust then the rest of the rear end probably does too.

The statement "The guy swears it's almost perfect" would make me a little curious as to what it might need to be perfect? Is he possibly concealing something? You already know that the CCF did not come from an "original" LS6 car. Be careful and good luck.

I talked to you a few days ago about a 1970 12 bolt posi rear w/3:31 gears I was considering to purchase and I appreciate your advice, well I had a mechanic check it out like you said and he said it was in really good shape so i purchased it. After getting it to his shop and giving it a more careful examination he said the gears and axles were fine and that all it needs is a carrier bearing kit and axle bearings and seals, he said that he could get the parts or I could and he would install them so my question is do you know of an online store or any other place where i could purchase these parts?
