: 66-67 Pics of Torque Thrust D Gray
Tod Feb 11th, 10, 11:36 PM Anyone have a picture to post of their 66' or 67' velle with Torque Thrust D's (the gray wheels Old-school).
I'm so close to getting some just wondering what they would look like?
Thanks
Tod

Jerry Briggs Feb 12th, 10, 12:57 AM Oh David, those look so good! Haven't seen those on a 67 in a long while.
Mike 69 SS396 Feb 12th, 10, 7:44 AM Here they are on my '68 SS, you either love them or hate them.

Dan Orgill Feb 12th, 10, 8:38 AM Got 'em on my '69. Quite a few people told me " But they're everywhere..".
I like 'em, as I think they're the perfect Day 2 wheel:yes:. If that makes me stuck in the 60's, fine with me.:D
GRN69CHV Feb 12th, 10, 9:28 AM Dan, thought I remember reading somewhere you run 70 series front and back? I'm looking to do something different and considering dark center wheels and possibly swapping to 70 series out back to get a taller tire in there to bring the gear down a bit for cruising/highway.

I do. BFG Radial T/A 235/70/R15 front and back. They are a little close up front, so maybe a 225 or 215 up front would be better suited. But, they have never rubbed or hit, so I guess a little close is OK.

Tod Feb 12th, 10, 12:22 PM Thanks to all....keep 'em coming! I guess I'm just "old school", I had a buddy in high school with a 70' 442 and he had these rims, I've never forgottent that car of his. I had a crappy Buick electra....although I was very happy to have that in High School:yes:
My 66' is dark blue (Indigo is very close) so I just wanted to try and see what my car will look like. Now I have white letter tires with Weld Draglite rims....just looking for soemthing different.
By the way....a "shout out" to Mitch at Newstalgia wheel for being patient and accomodating. He's been working with me and answering my many questions about these rims and M/T rear tires. I highly recommend Mitch for all your tire/wheel needs.
Thanks
Luke Feb 12th, 10, 12:23 PM Dave, Thanks for the pictures of your '67 SS396, anymore! Those old TT look great or are those old cragar grand prix's, what tires do you have on them know, I see in one picture there sportin' blackwalls.
Tod, the TTD's have more of a bent/rounded spoke then the TTO, both very cool wheels and timeless on this era car.
GRN69CHV Feb 12th, 10, 2:32 PM Think a key component of all this is paint color. I run Chrome Rally's. Wheels are nice and brite, but they get lost with the Frost Green paint. Dan's Silver '69 would be in the same boat with a polished or chrome wheel. The dark spokes add color and texture to the look- which makes them stand out. JMHO.
68DAVE Feb 12th, 10, 3:44 PM Here's mine with 15by7 front and 15by8.5 in the rear. 235/60 front and 255/60 rear. Uniroyal tiger paw's. like new rims and tires! my car is lowered and the 8.5's rubbed, i had to roll my wheelwell lips. upgrading my brakes so the 15's gotta go!
the heckler Feb 12th, 10, 4:12 PM man those do look good !! think summit and jegs have some knock offs that look pretty close for a whole lot cheaper...of course you probably get what you pay for....
droptop396 Feb 12th, 10, 6:55 PM I have photos of my 66 with TT D's with original style redlines.
I will post photos later. I am not on my computer.
(edit) found some small pics of my car on the web.
will post bigger later.

GRN69CHV Feb 12th, 10, 7:59 PM Was looking at FOOSE Nitrous RT (FOOSE version of these). I like those a lot. Available in a 15 x 8 w/ 4.5" BS.
tripblack138 Feb 12th, 10, 8:35 PM As she once sat a year ago....now got the rallies..soon to have black steel wheels with the poverty caps.
doghouse Feb 12th, 10, 10:28 PM I know you said gray,
I had these polished, then powdercoated clear, had the backs done too,
never again polish aluminum wheels,

Thanks.
Not the best pictures, but short on time to look for more.
My Chevelle has actually had both TT 2 polished w/redline radials and TT D gray w/bias redline firestones. Currently I have stock steel wheels with dog dish and the Bias redlines.

Thanks to all that responded, I really appreciate your efforts! Your cars are beautiful.

Gene Gregory Feb 16th, 10, 10:23 AM Hey Tod
IMHO , You need to find a set of old vintage American racing Torq Thrust wheels with the straight spokes not the curved "D" spoke like the new ones.
Get a pair of 15 X 81/2's for the rear and a pair of 15 x 7's for the front. Then have the centers glass bead blasted and the outers polished. Look for them on ebay and swapmeets around your area.
Ain't Nothi'n like vintage Americans

He could always go with Torq Thrust Orginals.
Gene Gregory Feb 16th, 10, 11:27 AM TTO's are close but still not the same as the vintage Americans. Heres a pair of 8 1/2's on e-bay now

Great looking car Walter no matter which wheels are on it! I went the reverse on my trip black, from R/L's and ralleys to 15" Cragar SS's. Someday I'll have another '67 black beauty but until then I'm lovin my '65!
Once again  on your car!
This is how my car looked with the original Cragars when I sold it to FM Flex.

I agree that's why my car now has stock painted steel wheels with original dog dish caps.
If I find a set of PERFECT 5 spoke originals in 14" I will buy them.

Mr Chevelle Feb 16th, 10, 12:38 PM The biggest issues I've found with old original 14" & maybe 15" straight spoke TT wheels is they may not fit disc brakes and in most cases the back space is NOT big tire friendly on 1966-67s...............

The torq thrust "D" with grey center [not polished] has been out since the mid 60's, "D" standing for disc brakes [bent spoke made room for the brake caliper] were seen more on corvette's of that mid 60's era. The TT-D wheel has been made up to the present time so most people think there are not 60's vintage.

Ah yes, the classic Crager. Also ome of my favoite "old school" looks! I wonder if Crager makes a 4.5 back space now??
300Deluxe Feb 17th, 10, 10:08 AM Aren't the new American Racing T70R's the same as the vintage Torque Thrusts?
It may be easier to purchase a set of these rather than trying to find an original set.
