Hey,
I'm thinking of lowering my '66 (327), probably just the front end 2 inches or so. I was just going to cut a coil off my springs instead of going the drop spindle route, or buying new lowering springs. Any thoughts on that? Can anyone recommend a shop in Seattle that can do this for me?
Thanks-----Ted
Just read through all the archives, and think I found enough info on cutting springs--I'll try cutting one coil (in water) and go from there. If I don't like the effect I'll purchase lowering springs.
Thanks-----Ted

No problem with cutting coils (except for heat), but be aware of how much you cut... I have used a cutoff wheel (no water needed)...
cutting one coil may not drop two inches (maybe more maybe less), and even measuring the coils while in the car is not a perfect method, because with a 2 inch shorter spring, the wheel will be more than 2 inches lower, just based on geometry of where the spring and spindle are in relation to the control arm pivot point... More like 1 -inch (loaded) out of the spring will drop the car about 2 inches... ask me how I know
Also shorter springs will tend to be stiffer...
Only problem with a shop doing this is that it may not be what you want, and you still have to pay... And they might not want the liability...

Try here
www.coilsprings.com (http://www.coilsprings.com)
I got quoted $119 for the front springs dropped 3" I'm sure the 2" drop is in the same ballpark.

I agree with Steve. Get the right spring from Coil Spring Specialties.
