About at the stage of my project on my 70 SS to clean/restore my F-41 Rear Suspension parts. I want to stick with the correct colors:

* rear axle-semigloss black
* rear swaybar-semigloss black
* rear coil springs-gloss black
* rear control arms-semigloss black

Here is my issue. I know Powder Coating would be the best way to go, however, I just dont have the extra funds to do that. This car will be a weekend cruiser and hit the local shows for fun not trophy's.

Should I rattle can paint them with the correct Eastwood paint or should I consider POR-15? Problem with the POR-15 is the correct black I believe, the base coat (Rust encapsulator) is a gloss and the top coat is Chassis Black (satin).

Any thoughts or alternatives? Would the spray paint just chip away in short order?

Thanks,

Dave

Here's a suggestion from another team member on what paints to use (Rubadub) I powder coated mine, but if I had to do it again I would Eastwood products.

for semi gloss I like Mar-Hyde. It just doesn`t chip! no need for primer either. Did my front frame rails / firewall 15 years ago and it still looks new...

I don't like power myself because I perfer to fill pits for a like new finish. If you must use raddle can I would use eastwood chasis paint. gary

My friend ask me to pass on a question. His rear control arms were done with POR-15, he wants to paint back to the "correct" semi-gloss .... can he just lightly sand the POR-15 and put the black over it (is primer needed) or does he need to sand back to metal and start over?

Check with POR. They have what they call "Tie Coat" primer to use when painting over POR15. Their web site explains their products pretty well.
