If I swap out my 6 cylinder for a SB350 and a Saginaw 4-Speed, am i going to need to change the length of my drive shaft? Should it all bolt right in? What types of things am I definitely going to need to do to make this happen?

Thanks

Sam

Other than installing all the components for a V8 engine, the only MAJOR parts that you will need to round up is the frame adapters to mate with the V8 engine rubber mounts. Basically, that be it.

If you wish, you can EVEN USE the flywheel and bell housing that is attached to the 6cyl engine!!!!!!!! Isn't that great!
The mating surface at the rear of the 6cyl engine and bell housing is at EXACTLY the same position as it will be for a V8 and bell housing (thus, all the clutch linkage is going to line up). Also, the 3sp tranny mount will be in the same position as it will be for a 4sp such as the Saginaw.
Sooooooooooooooo, to simply it as much as possible, unbolt the bell housing and flywheel from the 6cyl, throw the 6cyl in the river, attach the V8 frame adapters to the front cross member, bolt the flywheel and bell housing to the 350, swap the Saginaw for the 3sp (put the 3sp on Ebay), install it in the car. Done! Other than the V8 unique parts, installing the floor shifter, etc, etc, that's just as about as simple as it should be. ;)

Just start making inquiries, here, there, everywhere. Put in a wanted ad here in the classified section, check Ebay, Craigs list, ask other members here, etc, etc. Someone will have a set. I think they are the same for 64-67.

Saginaw 4 speeds tend to be rather light duty. Don't know what kind of power you are building or how hard you drive but the Saginaw may give up on you sooner then you expect. If money permits look for a stouter replacement 4 spd.

My old '64 ran the original 3 speed with a floor shifter and a low performance 350.
Never had a problem and beat the hell out of it.

The Saginaw 3sp & 4spd transmissions were meant for engines less than 300 gross hp, namely the 350v8 2bbl and smaller. these are not strong trannies.
look for a muncie m20 or m21.

I suppose I could always run her with the stock 3 speed until I found something better to stick in there beings they are so universal and easy to work on! My only concern with the 3 speed would be blowing up the 350 going over like 80 mph haha

If I remember correctly, some of the saginaw 3sp can be turned into a 4spd by changing side covers and removing an e-clip. in my expierence the input shaft bearing is the weak link, ate a bunch of them in my brothers camaro. I still have one of the transmissions with a hurst shifter on it in my garage, Cant seem to get rid of it.
