I just installed new springs in my 66 chevelle all the way around. The front sits up way too high for me. I've heard that coil springs will settle down after 6 months or so. What do you guys think? I got the heavy duty springs with A/C. I don't wanna cut a coil yet if I don't have to. Thanks guys.

I've never seen springs take longer than about a week to settle. Make sure you don't have the suspension bound up... put the car on the ground so the full weight is on it, then loosen all the suspension bolts a bit. Get out fromunder the car and 'bounce' it up and down a few times, then tighten everything back up. You can decide from there if you need to do anything.

When I installed new springs in my 72 Chevelle it took about a month or two and they did lower down a good ammount in fact I kind of wish they would sit a little higher.

Thanks for the reply's guys. I will try to loosen the suspension and bounce it like bc suggested. I also be patient for a month and recheck my ride height. Any other opinions or comments are apreciated.

If they are #6204 front springs I'm not surprised! I know of at least a half dozen people (myself included) who had to take out new Moog 6204 front coils for that very reason. Mine were installed for 3-months and never settled.

Moog 5244's are the HD with AC spring I think 6204 the std BB spring and 5256 BB std AC spring... I need to order new springs for my 66 and want car to sit level but want some suspension travel ...If the 6204's sit too high I also assume they don't have much travel left

David those who changed out the 6204's what spring did they use ????

Does anyone know how a BB car sits with the 5230 6cyl spring ????

What coil springs did you end up putting in your chevelle david bates? If I cut a coil will it affect the way it handles or launches?

I ended up installing Moog 5244's and although the front sits lower, I am still not happy with how it drives. Consequently, I have a complete Global West Tubular front upper and lower A-arm setup with coil overs I'm going to be installing in spite of all the negative press relative to the ackerman and bump-steer issues it has received from some folks.

You could cut the springs but again, some folks frown on that practice. I would think that you would be okay to do it but cut them a little bit at a time (1/4 to 1/2 coil) until you achieve the ride height you want. Keep in mind that as you cut the springs the rate goes UP a small amount. Handling should not be adversely affected but a stiffer spring rate will affect your launch I would think.

David ...... Thanks for the info , I believe the 5244 is shorter and stiffer than the 6204 so makes sense car came down in height

.... I am concerned with launch so will try the 5230 spring as tall as the 6204 but not as stiff so should sit lower ( hopefully not too low) yet still have lots of travel
