Ok - I bought a brand new set of front & rear bars from e-bay over a year ago for my '68 SS. I just got around to installing them and found out the rear bar is the wrong one. I can't return it and have no idea what it is for so I can re-sell it. Any help would be appreciated if you can identify it from these pictures????

if it's for a GM, then i'd guess it's for an F body.

I think that that is an aftermarket piece.

It is an aftermarket piece - just not for a 68 chevelle. I'd like to beat the jackass who sold it to me over the head with it.

Those pictures look like an ADDCO sway bar for an A-body but you are missing the installation hardware. Personally I wouldn't install it because the way it attaches to the lower control arm with plates and U-bolts looks like like a 3d grader designed it. Get a stock one or put the Hellwig adjustable Pro Touring bar on if you aren't stuck on stock appearance.

The one I ordered had TWO holes on each side...the one I got - as you can see - only has one. I have no idea what to do since I'm out $100+ on this one.

690 is Addco's part # for a 1" rear sway bar that bolts into the control arms (factory style). If that bar is tagged 690 it must have gotten mixed up is my guess?

Ok - that is the info I was looking for. Thanks so much!!

One more question...do I need to re-install the factory stabilizers on the lower arms after I have upgraded to the UMI Performance upper and lower arms and the sway bar??? I'm not sure what they are called (see lower 2 parts in this picture).

I would definitely install the control arm braces if you have them. Also, ADDCO makes two different rear sway bars for the A-body. One has two holes like a stock bar p/n 690 and the other p/n 939 only has one hole like the one you got that attaches with plates and u-bolts to the lower control arm.

The parts you are referring to are the rear frame supports used on SS model, El camino and station wagon (long frame). They are use to stiffen the frame so, yes, it is better to put them back on.

Actually, some aftermarket company claims that they are not strong enough and offer design of their own, like this one from Global West (http://www.globalwest.net/1964-72_Chevelle,GTO,Olds_442,A-body_Rear_tubular_control_arms_and_braces..htm).

that bar looks like the style that is fastened to the rear axle instead of the control arms and uses links that go to brackets that are bolted to the frame right above and in front of the axle. it's actually a better design than the style that bolts to the control arms.

Did that rear sway bar come with any u-bolts or hardware? It looks just like the bar seen here- http://www.classicperform.com/Store/1964_1972_Chevelle_Elcamino/6467RTCAK.htm

It looks like this set-up attaches to the rear control arm using little u-bolts. I would be sure that is an Addco sway bar in that picture too.

Hope that helps,
Ryan

I didn't get any u-bolt mounting hardware - and this appears to be a bar for a 64 - 67 chevelle...is it not? I am trying to sell it on e-bay right now, so any confirmation on what years it fits would be great!!!

Any conventional A-body rear sway bar will have TWO mounting holes on each side of the bar to attach to the LCA. And all '64-'72 rear sways interchange.
That really looks like an F-body sway bar...which attaches to the body with one down link on each end.
Anyone buying that off Ebay and hoping to bolt it up to their Chevelle is going to be disappointed...:(

So is this the wrong photo in this ad for the 64 - 67 kit from CPP??

I'd call them out on that pic. :(
To me it's kind of obvious...there are two holes in the control arms but only one in the sway bar.

Well I don't think ANYONE knows what the hell this bar is that I have then! Is it A-body or F-body? What years? If I could track down the guy who sold it to me he'd have a sway bar sticking out of HIS rear!
