: '67 el camino VIN ******00001
propest Feb 6th, 10, 11:22 PM talked to a guy today that has this elco and wants to sell it. havent seen pics and he doesnt have a computer, lives in the northern rockies. this is the story; according to him and he seemed like a straight shooter, the cars Vin makes it the first one off the freemont assy. plant. on the cowl tag, its stamped with PILOT and no other numbers etc. under the dash and other locations it has PILOT written in the typical marking ink from the assy. line. he's had it for 40 years, car is loaded, 327 PG trans. org. Gold int. in great shape, AC PB PS. all org. steel, no rust, always stored indoors. he said the car wasnt suppossed to be sold but somehow it got out for weekend test drive and when returned was parked in a different area so it got sold in a Cal. dealership and was relocated where he got it. he said he rattled can primered it 20 years ago. has around 100k mi. on it. told him to get it appraised. he said he definetly wants more than a grand for it but didnt suggest a price. i think he said it runs and drives. calling him later this week to see what he is looking to get and see about pics. any mems here in western MT or N. ID? let me know what you guys know on this type of deal- never heard of 'assy. line pilot' cars that werent suppossed to be sold? we talked in person today and i didnt smell any BS and he gave me his info.

Migt be a test car that somehow slipped thru. Could be very rare and valuable.
Tell him to go buy a Tracfone cell phone. $30. It can take pictures. He can text you pictures of the VIN tag and cowl tag.
Or go buy one for him and mail it to him.
srogers Feb 7th, 10, 2:14 AM Ask him where he lives. I live in Livingston, Mt. If it is not to far away would love to see this.
MRD1066 Feb 7th, 10, 2:22 AM I believe it can be the first off the assy. line.If that's the the last 5 of it's vin, then it's the first off the line for the model year in Fremont. I'm pretty sure Fremont vins started at 100000 for 67.
Back in the 80's I parted out a 67 Fremont convertible and kept the trim tag and vin tag.Years later my friend pointed out that the sequence number on the trim tag was 00001 making it the first Malibu conv. off the line that year. The vin ended in 100121.The 121st car off the line in Fremont for 67.
FWIW

bluefishgary Feb 7th, 10, 5:34 AM Man I would like to see the VIN and trim tag. As I have a 67 Fremont Elco
I have heard that one or two cars from each model year came down the line to make shore everything fit, before they start the next year production.
propest Feb 15th, 10, 11:19 AM callled the guy and got more info; has 327, not in car and not the org. one. front clip is off, car is in barn and surrounded by other cars/parts so getting pics could be a very long time. he said he started striipping car & frame about 15 years ago and is in DP 40 primer. i did get him to throw out a asking price but after that i had to 'get going' it does have #'s matching PG trans and rear end. so if anybody is looking for a big project and has forty grand burning a hole in their pocket... now to me its sounds like a $3-5K deal. i am nuts or is he?

$40 THOUSAND???? Don't forget to add LOSER to this list. Sounds like he got a few extra zeros on there.....
704EVER Feb 16th, 10, 7:36 PM IMO, I wouldn't give him 3/400, never mind 3/5K. It would cost you the same amount to restore a basket case Chevelle and at least you'd have some value in it. To pump the same amount of money in this car, good luck!!!!!! Bill Roses' car may be worth that kind of attention but not this one!!!!:noway:
Jasons 69 Chevelle Feb 17th, 10, 12:58 AM It sounds like he is trying to get you to go into the mountains.:(
