I came across a rear axle out of a 80's camaro . Axles are same lengths , But it a leaf spring set up . My question is can I delete my upper and lower contol arms .Use the camaro axle with the competition engenering 4 link ? Then replace my springs with a coil over shock . Would this be enough ? Can any one shed some light on this . I want to figure out a way to set this up and have it be as durible as the stock rear suspension .

why? i dont understand why. why do you want that rear? the money the change over will cost you, you would be better off finding the correct chevelle rear.

I agree with FO_FDYFO, WHY?

The 80's Camaro rearend (or 70's for that matter if its a leaf spring model) is not going to be that great, or strong or durable in your Chevelle...

You could put in a rebuilt 12-bolt for about $1200 (used much less and completely new is more), or a bolt-in 9-inch rearend conversion for not too much more money... These rearends will be more durable...

I don't know the cost of the Competition Engineering suspension, but I'd imagine by the time you get the 4-link and the coil overs, you are going to be close to the cost for the budget 12-bolt or 9-inch... And thats assuming you do all the installation yourself (are you a competant welder?).

The Stock Chevelle suspension can be upgraded pretty easily, to the point where the aftermarket setup is almost unnecessary (unless you narrow the rear end, but then you wouldn't be worried about the axles being the same length)... There are guys running 10-second times with "stock" suspensions (boxed arms, etc). Plus, for cornering/handling, I think the modified stock setup will be better. The CE is mainly a drag setup.

Looks-wise, maybe the CE suspension will look trick under your car, but using a weak rearend (like the Camaro one) will detract from the cool factor of the aftermarket 4-link.

What are you really looking for? A better rearend? Give us more info on what you want and why you want it. Do you want your car to be an all-around-performer? drag-only? Let us know and we can better help you decide which choices are better...

Your 67 SS should already have a 12-bolt, and that would be the logical choice for replacement if its missing.

Well hers the situation .. My SS has a 10 bolt rear end in it non posi 3.08 ..Previous owner swapped it out ? Dont know why .....So my buddy gives me a 86 Camaro rear end Posi 373 . Bought the 4 link and coil over spring kit . So Im at about $500.00 right now , Will the 4 link and coil overs be enough for a street car or Im I looking at some problems here ? Ill probabaly get to the track a few times but this will be mainly a street car . Not concerned with looks or origanality .. Im trying to build a quick street car . Thanks Jason
