Hello;
I just though I'd post this in case anyone is interested in this rear brake swap. I just test fit a set of Blazer rear disk brakes onto my 68 10-bolt rear end and they will install fairly easily.
The brakes are aluminum calipers with a composite piston. They have the brake shoe e-brake that goes on the inside of the rotor like a mini drum brake. The caliper mounts on a seperate frame that holds the pads. They remind me of the C4 Corvette brakes except they are 1-piston floating calipers. The rotors are 11.5" by about 3/4". They come in 4 parts, the base bracket that goes on the axle, the caliper and pad holder, the backing plate and the caliper itself.
The story. Basically, I had aquired a set of 4wd Blazer disk brakes but the rotors were too deep. I went to the parts store and found that 2wd Blazers have shallower rotors so I got a set of them. The installation is almost a bolt on. The center hole in the rotor needed to be opened slightly (I used a die grinder) and I needed to put 2 washers between the bracket and the mounting flange on the rear end. I'm going to try to find a different single spacer for this before the final install. It's no big deal because the brakets have raised bosses where each bolt goes through anyways so they only touch in the 4 spots. The bolts holes line up and the bolts that held the Blazer brakes on will work if the axle holes are cleaned out.
I believe the brake parts can be had from any 2wd or 4wd Blazer or Jimmy or S-10 from about 98 on. If you get the parts from a 4wd you will need to buy 2wd rotors.
Let me know if you want more info. I can also get pictures if anyone is interested.
