Crankshaft, Piston Rods, Pistons. You should take the whole short block to the machine shop and let them take it apart...which is engine minus heads, intake, carb, distributor, exhaust manifolds, plugs, etc.

Rotating assembly is the stuff that turns. If you have a new crank, rods and pistons, they should accompany the block to the machine shop.

The bores have to be bored and honed to fit the specific pistons you have.

If you are getting it balanced, you should take the rings flexplate and damper also.

1. is it frowned upon to take the whole car to the place because i have no way of removing the block and transporting it?
2. they dont install everything there do they?
3. sorry for the ignorant questions

If it's just a machine shop they probably won't take the engine out and reinstall it.Check with them first. If you can get the engine out they might pick it up.
They might assemble the motor for an extra cost, you need to ask them these questions and get price quote.

Some shops have the ability to remove the engine and re-install it when they are done with the work. The catch is that naturally, you have to pay for the R and R installation as well. If you have the tools and ability to pull it yourself with some help. Why not save yourself some money.
