I have a 65 Malibu convertible that the wing window knob mounting post is broke off. I have the wing window frame out to repair said problem. Is there a step by step procedure out there for pulling the window assembly apart? I see the two rivets on the bottom side of the actual inside window frame and would assume i need to grind the heads off to remove the latch assembly. Does the window come out first or does it come out with the latch assembly?
I have searched and searched for info on this so I am just going to speak up and ask all of you. Is there a post somewhere that I can't seem to find, any direction would be appreciated.

if you look in the "U" channel you will see screws that hold it together

On a 65, the vent window assembly is disassembled by removing screws in the U channel (run channel) and at the top of the vent window frame. No need to grind off any rivets. You need to remove the vent window assembly from the door. To fix the post, you'll need to remove the glass with its V frame from the assembly. Then you can pull the glass out of the frame. At that point you can either replace the V frame or weld on the post. Chrome work to follow.
If you send me your email address, I'll send some photos of a disassembled vent window.

The little triangle shaped chrome piece (that the lever stud is attached to) is a separate piece from the U-channel frame on the glass. You are correct that there are two things that look like rivets on the bottom of the U-channel that hold the triangle shaped piece to the channel. However, if I recall correctly they are not really rivets. They are studs that are pressed through the channel into the triangle shaped piece. So if you grind the heads off, you will be able to get it apart, but then you will have to get the remainder of the 2 studs out of the triangle shaped piece, and then use screws to reinstall when you're done.
I also don't know if you can get the glass out of the U-channel without either removing the triangle shaped piece first, or bending the U-channel in the process.
So probably easier to just find a decent used replacement for the entire vent window glass / U-channel / latch knob assembly. Call Sundell's in Shelby NC. http://www.sundellauto.com/ They've been parting out 64-67 'velles for years.

I found using a heat gun on low or a blow drier to warm the seal up between the chrome and the window. this wil then allow you to pull the glass out of teh triangle.
