: 67 Drip Rail
blue67chevelle Feb 5th, 10, 10:45 AM When i stripped my car there was what seemed like seam sealer on the inside of the drip rail where connects to the roof panel. Ill start with the dumb question, is that what it is?
Does seam sealer come in caulk tubes? When do you put it on, before you prime, after prime?
driller Feb 5th, 10, 11:26 AM Is it on top of the vinyl or under?
blazintowers Feb 5th, 10, 11:34 AM it is seam sealer, i'm doing mine now and just removed all the seam sealer, hit it with a wire wheel and am ready to lay down some epoxy primer.
blue67chevelle Feb 5th, 10, 1:03 PM no vinyl top. I figured it was seam sealer. Are you going to primer first, and then put the seam sealer on?
blazintowers Feb 6th, 10, 9:19 AM yes, epoxy primer first, i'll load it up pretty good, then invest in some good seam sealer.
67shovel Feb 7th, 10, 2:57 AM And keep the material build up on your drip rails to a minimum or you'll have a difficult time trying to put the trim back on.
dreamcometrue Feb 9th, 10, 12:33 PM Don't mean to hijack your thread, but could someone explain how the drip rail is removed. Currently Replacing a full quarter on my car and was loohing last night at how the rail comes off. My is sealed at the roof also but i couldn'tsee how it is attached on the bottom side. Just getting started so i hope this isn't to dumb of a question.
Thanks for all you guys help,
Brad

driller Feb 9th, 10, 12:48 PM Get an old style bottle opener and wrap it with duct tape. Then be very careful not to dent it. Go slow and it should pop off.
blue67chevelle Feb 9th, 10, 3:51 PM Yeah it is sort of crimped on for lack of a better word. Tape it to not tear it up too much. Very tedious
dreamcometrue Feb 9th, 10, 4:07 PM are you guys talking about the trim molding being removed with the bottle opener? The piece i am talking about appears to be glued to the top. It is what the trim snaps ontp.
Thanks,
Brad

blue67chevelle Feb 9th, 10, 4:25 PM Hmm. I believe we are talking about the thin stainless strip on the drip rail. Im not quite sure which part you are referring to. Is it possible you can find a picture to explain better?
He means the drip rail, not the aluminum trim...
dreamcometrue Feb 9th, 10, 10:36 PM Thats right...not the trim... how does it come off. Just took a pic and am not sure how to attach. Will try to attach it tomorrow. Thanks again guys,
Brad

Terry who Feb 10th, 10, 3:53 PM I Believe the drip rail itself is spot weled to the innner structure under the roof panel
blazintowers Feb 12th, 10, 10:18 AM it is spot welded on. is yours rusted out our something to require removal?
dreamcometrue Feb 20th, 10, 12:36 AM Here is a pic. Removing the quarter and am not sure how to get the rail loose without damage. It does appear to be wlded on the underside. I just can't figure out to get the quarter to release from the rail without damaging the rail. Will heat soften the seam sealer? I do want to leave the rail on of possible. How have you guys done it?
