Here is a picture of the hinges on my 70. They have been on the car since 1985 that I know of. Notice the style of the rivets that hold them together. I have looked at 3 other sets on 70's lately and the rivets on them have a big deep X like they were peened over. Anybody know or have seen anything different? I wonder if it was a supplier thing or they changed the design later on.

I have seen many hinges like your car has, and I believe they are original. I think where your car was manufactured, maybe had a different peened rivet. When I rebuild hinges, i use the X peen, like the other hinges you mention. The hinges with the X have a larger flare, but as long as you keep the rivets oiled and they work fine, I say they will last you a long time.

I use 2 types of lubricates, white lube and Sea Foam Deep Creep. The white lube I put between each metal piece and on the rivet when people get them back bare metal. The Deep Creep I use when people want their hinges Chromed, Powder Coated or other coatings where the white lube may interfere with the coating they want. I oil my hinges on my personal cars at least 3 times a year in our humid climate.

All of the 70 hood hinges I have, have the X peen.

The hinges on my 70 have the X.

My 70 KC car has a large 3 peened into each point.
