I had a leak coming from my Rear end, It appeared to be coming from the seal (pinion) So I drop the drive shaft, un losened the nut, Took out the seal, Checked the bearing and re installed it. I'm not sure about what kind of torque to tighten the nut at. I know that you have to change the nut, Someone told me that it should be tightened to 60 ft lbs. That seemed like a bit much, I did tighten it until all the play was gone and it did give a little then tighten back up. I hope I did the job right, I took it for a spin and it seems to be OK. Think I have anything to worry about?

It's about setting the pinion bearing preload properly. When changing a pinion seal, my method is to mark where the nut is on the threads and make sure it goes back to that point.
Count the number of threads showing and make a small notch on the pinion and the nut. Then just make sure you go back that many threads and the notches are lined up.

There's only one problem with that, The guy who I bought the car from did everything really half @#! The seal wasn't seated all the way and it looks like the nut that hold the pinion was backing off. I know your not supposed to re use the nut so I bought a new one. I did the job yesterday and drove it around, So far so good graemlins/hurray.gif No problems.
