Hi. I'm a member over at Team Camaro and I visit this site from time to time when something Chevelle comes up. The 67's and 69's are my favorite. I have a question or maybe 2 to ask the Holley carb experts if I may.

I am getting ready to have a carb rebuilt for my 69Z. #3923289 List-4053. Apparently I have the wrong metering blocks for it. Should be 5583 Pri and 4519 Sec, but have 5584 Pri and 3828 Sec.

Does anyone recognize those numbers? There are 2 carbs on ebay with the 3828 block but don't know if they are original to those carbs. Does any one have a carb with any of these numbers?

I have a question about those block numbers on the Holley Carb Tech site as well but haven't had a responce so far.

Thanks for your help. Trying to locate a 4519 and 5583 blocks. Any help would be appreciated.

It's been a while since I've had one of the newer re-release ("service replacement") Holleys across my workbench, but I *believe* the 5584 and 3828 blocks were installed on later re-release carbs. Does the date on your carb indicate it's a service carb?

Hi Eric...Yes I believe it to be a Service Replacement and is dated 0811. Do you know when these blocks started showing up? Does it make any difference in regards to what blocks are actually used. I'm kind of up in the air about replacing them with the correct blocks for the List number. Any suggestions on locating 4519 and 5583 blocks and prices and I can then make my decision to sell or keep it from there.

Thanks,
Gary

Gary;

Going by the fact that your carb is a service unit, then those are likely the correct blocks for it. Be advised that original 5583 blocks are relatively scarce, and hence, expensive. The 4519's aren't quite as tough to locate normally, but right now I'm even out of stock on them.

As long as your carb was performing satisfactorily, I wouldn't waste the time (nor the $$) to put original metering blocks on it. Save that for a real dated carb.
