a36chevy Jun 12th, 04, 2:51 PM The button is so that you have a way to re-center the piston in the valve that turns on your brake warning light. This works off of pressure differential between the front and rear halves of the valve. Sometimes the pin needs to be pushed in to allow one side or the other to be bled out. The roundish looking device (with the big hex nut on its front) hanging below the master cylinder is the Metering Valve. Its button needs to be held in (probably with a C-clamp) when pressure or vacuum bleeding the front brakes. The proportioning valve is down on the frame and does the distributing forward and rear. It also has the "BRAKE" warning light switch.
